Job Description
Summary The DeKalb County Early Learning Coordinator will be responsible for leading the County Coalition in advancing early learning in the DeKalb County community.
Duties - Works with County Coalition: Lead County Coalition in developing the strategic plan which includes short-term and long-term goals along with leading the review of annual goals.
- Builds relationships with stakeholders: Convenes and collaborates with stakeholders, including school districts, to advance measurable early learning key indicators in our county. Strengthen the coalition through additional community support and activities.
- Facilitates County Coalition & committee meetings: Schedules meetings, invites participants, leads discussions, and helps the group with strategy. Ensures action items are assigned/completed.
- Nurtures all in the provider network: Meets with existing providers individually and in group settings to offer support, share information, learn what providers need, bring training to the region to support child development, and share this information with the coalition, county, region, and state.
- Communicates early learning messaging: Creates and shares messaging to build awareness around childcare needs. Speaks with service groups, media, corporate community, and legislators about issues. Promotes the activities of the Early Childhood Coalition.
- Fundraising: Initiates and participates in fundraising solicitations to include grant writing, appointments with business leaders, and other opportunities.
- Collaborates on a Regional and State level: Participate with the Northeast Indiana Regional Early Child Care Coalition, as well as work with other coalitions and early learning advocates across Indiana.
- Identifies appropriate actions to move the mission forward: Be observant in the community and collaborate to move from discussion to action to meet the goals of the Coalition.
- Represent the Coalition: Engage in key countywide initiatives to further the reach of the Coalition.
Requirements - Self-starter with exceptional organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal relationship skills
- Written, oral, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build professional relationships with participating partners, business leaders, elected officials, etc.
- Fundraising skills to include grant writing, corporate solicitation, etc.
- Ability to provide support to all childcare providers
- Advocate on behalf of early learning
- Ability to interpret data that can be communicated in a meaningful way
- Skills in data collection and analysis, project planning, and evaluation
- Ability to work with diverse groups
- Ability to multitask and maintain a flexible schedule
- Professional demeanor
- Proficiency with technology and software
- Flexible Schedule with some night and weekend work as needed
Nice To Haves - Knowledge of early child development is preferred but not required
- Knowledge of state requirements for childcare licensing and regulations is preferred but not required
