Preschool Assistant Teacher or Aide

2025-2026 School Year

$19 - $25 per hour

Full-Time (183 contract days) 

 

Position Description

Flagstaff Academy seeks a Preschool Assistant Teacher or Aide for the 2025-2026 school year.  This role will potentially assist in a full-day four year-old classroom.

 

The candidate is responsible for monitoring student attendance, safety, and guidance, ensuring a fun, enriching, and developmentally appropriate environment for children. The Assistant Teacher will assist the Lead Teacher with implementing a balanced curriculum, including educational, enrichment, and recreational activities for children. They’ll also assist in maintaining compliance with state and local regulations, promoting good relationships with parents, and supporting the surrounding school community. Knowledge and adherence to state licensing requirements for early childhood classrooms is critical for this role. These would include (but not limited to) staff/student ratios, maintaining cleaning/storage/facility requirements in the classroom, sign-in/out procedures, and name to face documentation.  

The position requires close collaboration with team members to ensure meaningful support for students in content and behavior management.

Specifically, we seek an educator with:

  • Prior experience with children, preferably 3-5 years of age
  • Ability to follow Flagstaff Academy policies and procedures
  • Good communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively, including a positive attitude, growth mindset, and desire to work with a team.
  • Willingness to work closely with families (e.g., regular communication and parent meetings where needed)
  • Ability to form positive relationships with 3-5 year olds
  • Patience when working with children that may have challenging behaviors is highly desired.
  • Effective instructional delivery techniques.
  • Knowledge around state licensing requirements for early childhood classrooms (e.g., rules around ratios etc.)
 

The candidate’s pedagogy should be student-centered and practiced in differentiated instruction.  Experience with Creative Curriculum and TSG preferred but not required.

 

Job Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Preferred qualifications as an assistant teacher through Colorado Shines PDIS/State Licensing Requirements.  **We are also willing to bring on a teacher’s aide to train and guide towards becoming assistant certified.
  2. CPR, first aid, universal precautions, medication administration, and mandatory reporting certifications required within 90 days of hire date 
  3. Strong systems orientation and commitment to follow-through
  4. Excellent communication skills

Located in Longmont, Flagstaff Academy is a tuition-free public charter school serving grades kindergarten through eighth. Our school also offers a tuition-based full- and part-time preschool program for three and four year olds.

Salary Range

Salary for our teaching staff is competitive and based on years of experience and level of education.

 

Flagstaff Academy Offers an Extensive Benefit Package:

  • PERA Retirement - In lieu of Social Security, public employees in the state of Colorado contribute to a tax-deferred retirement account that is administered by Colorado PERA.  Employees contribute 11% of monthly earnings while Flagstaff Academy contributes 21.4% to the PERA pension trust fund on the employee’s behalf.
  • Life/AD&D insurance - Flagstaff Academy provides a Life/AD&D insurance policy with a $40,000 benefit for each eligible employee.
  • Short Term Disability - Flagstaff Academy provides a Short Term Disability policy for each eligible employee.
  • Paid Time Off - Employees are granted PTO based on years of service and number of contract days.  Part-time employees are granted PTO prorated at the percentage of a 40-hour week.
  • Free Childcare - Staff can access childcare before/after school, as well as during all professional development days, through our Dragon Flight program Kindergarten and up.
  • Employee Appreciation - Flagstaff Academy offers an unmatched employee appreciation program throughout the school year.
